Many different lasers are used in eye surgery to achieve different objectives. One way to correct refractive error is a surgical procedure that uses a high energy ultraviolet laser to re-shape the corneal curvature (laser refractive surgery).
For those with myopia (short-sighted) the corneal curvature is flattened. With corrections for hypermetropia (hyperopia, or long-sightedness) the corneal curvature is steepened.
